b) Austria’s government is beginning work on a proposal to constitutionally ban “political malsi,”….

c) As Morocco has once again laid claim to the Spanish enclave, and Sánchez is trying to contain tensions with Rabat, the U.S. president lashed out at the Madrid government in an interview.

d) Meta disables Albanian protest accounts as MEPs demand answers. Opposition figures, activists and journalists covering the anti-government “Flamingo Revolution” lost access to Instagram as Albania negotiates European Union membership. (JH: Albania … EU? Sheesh!)

e) The European Union’s Economic Model has officially come to an end. ‘On 27 August in Paris, at the annual conference of the French business federation (La REF 2026), the President of the European Commission delivered a somewhat surprising speech….

3. Gingrich

Erick Erickson makes an important point. Some of the Trump administration’s biggest victories are happening quietly. Marco Rubio is using economic pressure to weaken Cuba’s ability to export revolution. Tom Homan and ICE are producing record results. Competence matters. Results matter. And the quiet men are winning. | https://ewerickson.substack.com/p/the-quiet-men-are-winning

2. More following the Clancy trial

I (JH) have been puzzled about the depth of feeling on both sides of the Clancy trial … what, to me, seemed an open and shut case of murder (and there appears no doubt she did the murders, with malice aforethought) … I wonder if the case against the drugs administered to her counts.

First look at Alec Zeck’s analysis below, on X:

These drugs don’t just fail to fix people. They mask symptoms, manufacture new ones, and in some cases push people toward harming themselves or someone else—and the industry that profits from them has spent decades making sure the general public doesn’t fully grasp how often that happens. They rip people apart psychologically and physically. They rip families apart, too.

I’m not on “team Lindsay” or “team Patrick,” and I don’t know what happened in that house. But the medication piece keeps getting drowned out by true crime theorizing.

In the 4 months before the killings, Clancy was pumped through 13 different psychiatric medications, with over 30 total prescriptions as doses got yanked up, down, and swapped, by multiple providers who never once compared notes with each other.

The publicly available data backs this up, and they’re not “fringe” in any sense:

The FDA’s own 2006 review of 372 antidepressant trials (nearly 100,000 people) found a 2.3x jump in suicidality risk for patients under 25. That’s why every antidepressant in America now carries a black box warning.

A 2015 Swedish national study found SSRI users aged 15-24 were convicted of violent crimes at more than 5x the rate of non users (3.3% vs 0.6%). Sertraline in particular stood out among the top-prescribed SSRIs.

Roughly 1 in 4 American women is currently on some form of psychiatric medication, per the CDC’s own newest data, nearly double the rate for men. This isn’t a fringe issue at all. It’s mainstream medicine, quietly, on a massive scale.

And the problems with rapid switching or cold stopping these drugs, exactly what happened to Clancy, isn’t a fringe theory:

Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome is very real and can, at a minimum, trigger brain zaps, insomnia, anxiety, and suicidal ideation within days of stopping.

Benzodiazepine withdrawal is one of the most dangerous withdrawal syndromes in all of medicine, capable of triggering, at a minimum, rebound psychosis, seizures, and severe agitation. I watched that happen to my own mother.

Cross tapering (stopping one drug abruptly while starting another) can stack withdrawal from the first on top of side effects from the second, leaving a person destabilized from both directions at once.

According to the medical system’s own ideas, psychiatric medications typically take 4-6 weeks just to reach full effect, and many require slow, deliberate tapering over weeks specifically to avoid destabilizing the nervous system.

Going through 13 drugs in that same window means many of them never had time to even show whether they were “working” (which is a loaded, problematic idea, in and of itself…) before being swapped again.

13 different medications in 4 months is not normal, cautious psychiatric care, or at least it shouldn’t be. But it probably is relatively normal. And that’s the problem: it’s pure pharmacological, psychological chaos, and nobody bats an eye because this is just how the system runs…”

And then look at who he is:

That’s ggl search, which portrays him in the way you see. What we, the officially unqualified public, see is two seemingly opposed and evidence backed cases and yet I’d suggest they’re two separate issues, each to campaign for. This Alec Zeck does not deny she killed the children … his field is “holistic” medicine. Ours so far has been to support the holdout juror and examine woke left women, their reliability, esp. if medical establishment medicated over a long period.

There’s a side issue for Unherdables

Regulars know that “our” Fido took umbrage at my questioning of Leah’s transparency or opacity, without actually negating what she said. I have subsequently run her and shall again. Was I wrong to delve, to look at who she is, also Data Republican?

Difficult to remove the emotion on clearly emotional issues and yet we do need to explore, I’d suggest, if only to clear the person. Zeck may well be fine, he may be a kook … there’s a long history of “unusual” people exposing things.

Take Dr. Colin Ross who exposed the psychiatric “establishment” … Syd Gottlieb, Jolyon West, the whole DID, dissociation techniques, GH Estabrooks, Ewen Cameron, Selwyn Leeks story, even Manchurians. That alone puts us who have looked at it out on the fringe of those “out there”, “out to lunch, mentally” according to powerful forces. For the crime of exploring and trying to examine both sides.

Could I both agree with Alec Zeck and with the “holdout” juror? Why not? But where does that leave that trial? In what state of play?

Fri Mat one

The cunning plan is this, chaps and chapesses … episode 3 now but 4 tomorrow introduces Lucille Vines, an interesting person to me, so much so that her other Holmes appearance, 28, will be on Sunday, with some biographical notes.

One thing a bit iffy for me is when they ham it up … there are serious episodes, yes, but also these self-conscious ones.

A pub rock band

The mid 70s had a great pub rock scene and I was lucky enough to meet it in two places … London and Melbourne, both hubs for this sort of thing. Here, there were all sorts of bands from Graham Parker, Dr. Feelgood, Ducks Deluxe to relative unknowners … and downunder, not only Melbourne bands but Sydney, Perth and so on.

True there was pop but I was never much into it, unless indie, like this band below. Glam was anathema to me, though Slade were well regarded … not my thang. I met this band’s keyboardist … my mate and I walked down to a pub from his place in North Melb and there they were.

During a break, the keyboardist, a truly zany guy, known as “Greedy” Smith, had a plate piled high, we were facing each other, talking, and as he became animated on some topic, the plate angled, the food started sliding off the edge, over him. They were a band who really were fun, not just putting it on, such as Split Enz.

Anyway, this was a … er … fun tune by them but the reactors are as straight as a die, almost no humour, plus American … so how were they going to handle a Sydney pub rock band in their milieu?

They were a much loved band … can you imagine nipping down for a pint, paying the cover and the Mentals entertain you for a couple of hours? Those were good days. We’ve played this one before on the site:

9. Coming back to that strength training question

I it recommended for the ageing? In principle, yes … but ONLY in a certain context:

  • Have you regularly gym trained for years or are you just thinking about it now? If the former, plus you had a good trainer … then your body has muscle memory … it will shift priorities to cope with this assault on musculature.
  • This is assuming no heart attacks, bruised ribs, hip, joint issues, let alone falls, today’s poisoned sky, earth, water, food, plus you have a regular western GP … many boxes to tick before contemplating it.
  • And even if you have been training for decades, you start atrophying after 50. The real killer, apart from overall fitness, is diet, water, happiness through factors in another post, plus a strong mindset. The second killer is bone brittleness through lack of adequate hydration, diet, just age. The bod has it’s own clock, no matter what you plan.
  • Strength training militates against today’s necessary caution. You see, you’ll not build muscle by doing “enough”, only by forcing the muscles slightly too far, they then compensate by adding bulk. You need people around you in case. You need consistency, you know how much to do, maybe every second day, not every day.
  • And as I found out a couple of months ago … I might be incrementally up to higher weights, doing well, heart happy, but I have a two week layoff. Decades ago, it was fine, one recovers within weeks. But at this age, also lying, unnaturally, on a bench, a padded slab, then the atrophying which sets in during the histus is staggering, esp. if “snacking” on junk. I saw the danger, felt it, stopped, in shock, had a month of heart trouble.
  • Eventually, the heart says “enough”, I’ve been asked too much. GP advice now? What GP? Mr. Ramaputra from Delhi?
  • Bodies atrophy at different rates, also different sex. Also, sexual activity. Also the stress you’re under. All count.

Am I saying don’t train? Train but ditch ego and fear, yet start lightly, incrementally increase, be ready to stop. Do less overall in a session than you were planning. Increase gradually next time. Try to be regular, yet ready to drop the riutine instantly. Mix in aerobic (walks for example).

a) Spanish police fire tear gas at Ceuta protesters outside Congress. Riot units cleared the streets around parliament on Ceuta Day, five weeks after no such equipment was used as tens of thousands of illegals walked into the enclave.

b) Hundreds of thousands rallied across Spain on Ceuta Day demanding stronger border controls, expulsion of illegal migrants and Pedro Sánchez’s resignation, while solidarity protests also reached the European Parliament in Brussels.

c) Germany. Nine people were injured after a man poured an unknown liquid onto an AfD information stand in Bad Kreuznach on Wednesday, with two taken to hospital. The attack comes amid escalating efforts by mainstream politicians to ban parts of the party….

d) Winter Is coming– but Europe’s Energy Crisis may hit in the Autumn. For the EU to overcome the energy challenges ahead, it cannot afford to abandon pragmatic solutions for the sake of dogmatic and rigid expectations.

5. Social relations

Nothing new in this … it’s from Quora, which I see as a bit like the old Readers Digest … mainly populated by “normies” in a non-sardonic way, more like Everyman, Everywoman, Americocentric … how the “average” westerner is seeing things … often sleb-o-centric too, as in who was the rudest sleb. Middling.

Guy is Richard, a grandfather:

“I can only speak about what and how I see this. The reason is women. I have 4 grandsons 19–26 years old. They are all good young men. I asked why aren’t any of you dating. The oldest spoke up right away. He said women our age don’t want a man to share their lives. They only want a place holder until something else comes along. Sorry Grandpa but I just don’t see there ever being any of us getting into a long term relationship. That isn’t what girls our age want. These aren’t lazy bums one is a video game designer one a chef one a rancher and the youngest is a junior in college.”

Further caveat … who’s to say this is not AI, that it’s not one of those essay writers inventing a fictional grandfather to serve an end? The end being that this is what normies look for in a site like Quora. I’ve no snswer, it might be … yet it might be for real.

Jedediah Bila on youtube does similar … girls seeing the world as their oyster from birth now, parents being late Gen Z, early Millennial, Lord save them. Seeing no danger in them doing what they want, screwing whom they want, playing the same game they see boys as playing, no pushback whatever.

Hence the broken social contract, with the invaders, housed, fed and poised for the slaughter, whilst the real young men (unfeminised) are over dying in the Ukraine or in Iran.
