Australians desperate for a baby have been caught up in a nightmare ordeal that’s left them tens of thousands of dollars out-of-pocket and feeling like they’ve been “duped”. Many are too scared to speak, however one man, Andrew Lopez, feels so much despair he can’t stay quiet any longer – and he wants to warn others. He and his partner had dreamt of becoming dads and turned to overseas surrogacy. The pair paid a $50,000 deposit, but have since lost all trust and hope. Emails sent by an overseas surrogacy agency expose long waits, a shortage of surrogates, and an industry plagued with issues.
