6. Do you trust the medicos?

There’s nothing new in this … when I warr a lad, I had the smallpox vaxx along with many others … those were also polio days. Anyway, it came up in a lump, went down, came up again. My parents managed to coopt a surgeon of some note, a bit like the KLM crew trainer flying home from Tenerife and he had everyone cowed, such that no one would say anything.

So there I was, anaesthetised and a bit being cut out of me. In fact the august baron botched it … turned out he was drunk, plus he did not care … I was hardly sugust enough myself to bother with. Shoulder was a mess.

Hospital had to coopt a proper surgeon to repair the damage … still have the scar today. A bit different to croaking it, admittedly.
