The key aspect from our 2026 point of view with this film was that the section in the book where all the machinations were to inevitably lead to communism in Britain by re-electing a Labour govt … that was left out of the film. There was political reason then (pressure and finance) and there is political reason now.
The book came out in 1984 and the film in 1987.

Nobody seems to be asking “Why Piddington?”
Its not the only village near a militsry base “destined” for a foreigner accomodation site. Why is this the one chosen to be the darling of the media, the faker, the members of the parliament to rock up at and “discover the real truth”.
The investigation would be better served if the magifying glasses were turned towards the government employee, probably a lawyer, responsible for the decision to sign the piece of paper that underpins this deliberate demographic change.
Therin lies the rub, government types, media, types the fakers, the lawyers all bat for the same team. Its a big club and we ain’t in it.
