There are chaps, guys … gals too but more usually guys … and they have a certain skills set and interesting backstory … they’ve done a lot. They’re experienced.

But they’re also irascible, do not like doing what they’re told … they’re fairly self-contained … and so one is careful to a point but not too far, otherwise it is simping and none of these are simps. As I mentioned to MMutR … only an idiot fights such people, rather one provides a pleasant haven afap and if each one is “his own man” or “her own woman”, I’m fine with it … it’s the readers who benefit, which is the prime directive, innit.

Way back, getting on for 60 years, there were some musical artists who were like that … they wanted things done their way. In the case of CCR and Steppenwolf, it eventually broke the bands up, band members would leave, they were almost pariahs … I for one am fine with pariahs. There’s a huge difference between being difficult and being s total a***h***, excuse my French. Imho, these two guys, Fogerty and John Kay … they were the goods.

That does not apply on this blog as there are upwards of a half dozen who could be called the goods, so it requires diplomacy which I’m not particularly good at. In music, I’m not crazy for all John Kay’s output … after the megahits Born to be Wild, Magic Carpet Ride and the Pusher, played constantly, reacted to constantly … I prefer back catalogue gems, in my eyes.

One of those, You’re Wall’s Too High, is below the interview and then I finish up with a CCR I love. So first the John Kay interview. Look at his bio, tough upbringing … so be careful with this man … still not in the R&R hall of fame … offended too many bigwigs.

Now to the song I chose out of the entire back catalogue. Why? Because critics called it repetitive, even dull. Not to me … it has my required elements, i c. raunchy groove, strong bassline etc. etc. It has grit.
