  1. My Gran had one of those. It was a “Singer”. Used to use it unthreaded on paper to make perforations – can’t remember why now.

  2. Mrs H had a manual version with a handle on the wheel. What always impressed me was how solid it was, as if designed to last for decades and be handed down through generations as this one was.

    • Ditto…my Grandms was a professional seamstress back in the day. She took great delight in telling me and my brother (as little ones) how often the needle would drive straight through her thumbnail and having to back up the the machine so she could….carry on. Aaaaaargh!

  3. I can recall an act in our Working Men’s Club many years ago, when a bloke used the sound of his sewing machine to compose songs. He was a singer songwriter.
