  1. 8. I read somewhere some time ago that the Cornish Celts and the Scottish Celts were known as Northern Celts while the Welsh Celts were Southern Celts. If that helps. I’m now more confused than before.

    • Language is the best determiner, Andy. Two branches:

Goidelic (Q-Celtic): Irish (Gaeilge), Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig), and Manx (Gaelg). These languages retain the “q” sound from Proto-Celtic and are primarily spoken in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man.

Brittonic (P-Celtic): Welsh (Cymraeg), Cornish (Kernewek), and Breton (Brezhoneg). These languages evolved in Wales, Cornwall, and Brittany, France, and are characterized by the “p” sound in place of the Proto-Celtic “q”

Clearly north and south though historically they evolved from a common language (Proto-Celtic) once spoken across Europe and the British Isles.

  2. There’s nothing quite like walking into a room and seeing everyone else leave the room. Headline in the paywall telegraph, “Ed Milliband welcomed to Foreign Office by civil servant walk out”. Precious moments.

    ……

    JH: Nice.

  3. 10. Baby Martians? 😎. My Gran kept one of those baby contraptions in the cupboard in the bathroom. It frightened me to death when I came across it when sent to fetch something from said cupboard!😱 First time I’ve seen one in use.
