A post I expect NO ONE to sit through

… not even me, ha ha. There were really only two songs I liked … Look at Yourself and July morning. As I’ve waited a year for this, plus it’s 1151 right now, it seems an appropriate song to play … right now.

Uriah Heep were part of the early 1970s rock scene and have been referred to as major pioneers of the hard rock, heavy metal and progressive rock genres.

The band have sold over 40 million albums worldwide, with over 4 million sales in the US, where their best-known songs include “Look at Yourself”, “July Morning”, “Easy Livin'”, “Come Away Melinda”, “The Wizard”, “Sunrise”, “Lady in Black”, and “Gypsy”.

They also maintain a significant following and perform at arena-sized venues in the Balkans, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia and Scandinavia.

Different genres have different beat patterns, different rhythms … this was the start of prog plus metal, before it divided into tribes … until now most kids were of the same tribe … the radio tribe … that is, whatever the DJ was playing. I was never much into prog, finding Floyd and similar resistible. As for rock and metal … massive egos, weird suits, a screaming demigirl with long hair at the mic … I just felt there were better genres.

Nor did I go near pop, glam, that sort of contrived thing. By about 1974, our little tribe were starting to get into American southern rock, the Doors, Spencer Davis group, Free, Bad Company, some Zeppeling, definitely Yardbirds … different direction. Albums became more the thing.

  1. Once upon a time I did have their album Very Heavy, very Umble in my collection, may still have it lurking around somewhere.
