Perspective

That couple of posts at OoL and Jstack now are about perspective … laying each major point on the table, stepping back and looking at it in the light of hindsight. Socio-political. There are also art, film, music and architecural eras.

Then we can go direct to geographical parallels:

While I was in the south of Sicily for some months, I never realised I was on the same geographical parallel as Tunis and Barcelona (roughly). However, on the second map, look at the deep south gulf coast of Bama (Toodles). I mean, how far away, yet close. Now look at the right or east of the Russkie map … Omsk to Moscow … that’s where I was for over a decade.

Which brings me to timelines and humans, people I’ve known. I once had a ladyfriend from the Ukraine. Her mother showed me a photo of herself as a child, running out to hand an in-marching German soldier a flower. Those sorts of things stay with me.

1967 was a highly significant year for me … my perspective goes back to around 1884, no further back … and forward to around 1997 … the rest we all know about. That girl in 1967, and I, are still corresponding. So is 1962. So is Russia around 2001. Those things are important to me … seems to them too.

Then we have a whole different world … N.O. and Unherdables (2006 to 2026 so far). Remember plandemic during that?

Melancholy? Nah … just thankful for a rich past and present.

  1. I follow a young lass who is a dairy farmer in Maine, USA.

Their winter is so much worst for snow and Ice than my abode in Western France. In the Spring, when we were doing our First Cut of grass to make hay, Maine was still under the last snow of the winter.

I was amazed to find that, from our latitudes, she was south of me, roughly equivalent to Bordeaux. The (very cold) Labrador Current is the reason. Three cheers for the Gulf Stream, without it we would be much colder.

    ……

    JH: Goodness.
