Quite an Endeavour

… was this series. I was not a mad, crazy fan of Morse, mainly because Thaw was not one of my faves, either as Regan or Morse. There were also episodes I really did not like, e.g. Cherubim and Seraphim, quite contrived through the writers and crew not having been involved in RL within the scene. I also did not like the lesbianism, the harshly masculine females in Brit fiction, e.g. in Sayers’s Gaudy Night. Nor was Morse anything but embarrassing as a lover.

However, the rest of it was wunnerful, from the Jag to the settings to the leisurely pace, to Lewis, to its very Britishness at its height, before the massed invasion.

Many episodes did stand out and the one getting my vote was Death of the Self, set in Italy. The irony, for me, was my RL partner was involved with the mayor of one of those V named cities, I even spoke with him once … and the settings and plot were pretty good, plus I bought the booklet, which led in all sorts of directions.

One last negative … not sure if it was AI or real narration in this, I’m thinking real … but YT obviously tell creators to go with sensational clickbait thumbnails and titles. Dark? It was just facts about Morse the series, oft repeated to pad it out, but overall worth it.

By the way, did you also see the oft repeated schoolgirl in the lesbian episode … she was actually a 22 year old Elizabeth Hurley.

Oh guess what … it’s embedding disabled … utter horses’ backsides.

Oh, and at the end of the Morse series, the character has a heart attack and dies. Charming.
