b) France: the Pope’s visit. Finally passed by the French Parliament on July 15, 2026, the right to assisted dying represents an “anthropological rupture” for the Church in France and the Vatican. 

“It is impossible to consider the act of causing death as normal,” stated Léon XIV on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Lourdes—firmly insisting, just months after France adopted a law establishing a right to assisted dying, that “what is legal is not necessarily moral.”

c) France. National Rally wins ‘historic victory’ in French Senate elections

The party has three senators whose terms were not up. Nine RN names were added on Sunday, and two UDR seats in the Alpes-Maritimes.

d) Israel expels Dutch diplomats over settlement goods ban.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced the decision on Sunday, once The Hague’s ban on settlement goods had entered into force.
