Thursday [6]

(1304) Afternoon all. (1341)

Delivery driver arrived, same time as old neighbour

  • Driver: You watch the football?
  • Me: Some … you two following the election?
  • Old chap: Exciting … neck n neck between two parties.
  • Me: Restore and Labour.
  • Old chap: You wot? (laughs) Labour’s 45, Reform just behind.
  • Me: Where’d you get those numbers?
  • Old chap: Bleedin’ BBC, innit (driver watching us, curious) … you can trust that, no?
  • Me: Trust the BBC? (big grin) One of the worst liars, same with C4. Starmer’s channels.
  • Old chap: Restore’s on 4%.
  • Me: (Grinning again) False numbers again. Like in Great Yarmouth, eh?
  • Driver soundlessly asks the question.
  • Me: Labour somewhere high 30s, Restore on their tail, Reform falling away.
  • Old chap just shakes his head.
  • Me: My main interest is in the raped girls (thought I’d best explain) You heard of the grooming gangs? (That one hit home, both faces now serious.) One of the parties is supporting them, I do too, get them justice.
  • Old chap: I heard that Farage say some bad things about that, about abortion too. I wasn’t having that.
  • Me: There ya go. 4%, 34%, whatever. Look, if Burnham gets in, well all right. But Farage must not.
  • Old chap goes back inside, driver helps with my bags.
  • Driver: I’m working class.
  • Me: So is Rebecca, the Restore lady. And those girls. Obvious who I’d vote for.
  • Driver thinks for a minute, no hurry to go: How’s the heart? (he’d had two strokes).
  • Me: Been better but too much happening right now.
  • Driver: You take care now.

  1. Those are precisely the brief interactions that we must take advantage of in our daily lives. Set people thinking, get them questioning. Memes are not just amusing graphics, they are thoughts implanted into the minds of others. Well done James and Old Chap.

  2. “Set people thinking, get them questioning.” Yep!

One of our friends nearby suddenly notice the ##### patterns in the sky. “Those are funny looking contrails” says he. Cue for an info exchange from me followed by email with several links. “Who’s paying for this lot?” came the next question…. and on we go
