Scene is a Russian republic near the Volga, late 90s, approaching summer holidays, thousands booking their place in the camps, Butlinesque. Not cheap, even for two weeks, but it’s the annual hols, innit?

Someone in govt decides that hundreds of Somalian yoof will come for a six week holiday instead, so all resident bookings are cancelled, the various huts now to be full of Somalians. Citizens … no summer holiday, unless they have dachas, gardens.

Two weeks after they arrive, every last Somalian is out of the country. Wonder why. The Russkies must be creasing themselves with laughter over the US situation in 2026.
