(1534) Good mid afternoon, chaps and chapesses.
15. A cautionary tale
Scene is a Russian republic near the Volga, late 90s, approaching summer holidays, thousands booking their place in the camps, Butlinesque. Not cheap, even for two weeks, but it’s the annual hols, innit?
Someone in govt decides that hundreds of Somalian yoof will come for a six week holiday instead, so all resident bookings are cancelled, the various huts now to be full of Somalians. Citizens … no summer holiday, unless they have dachas, gardens.
Two weeks after they arrive, every last Somalian is out of the country. Wonder why. The Russkies must be creasing themselves with laughter over the US situation in 2026.

Re #8 – Richard North has a different take on this, and he was an environmental health inspector:

James. Hope the link obsfuscation is OK?
Peter North and his buddy who had a column in the Telegraph (forgot his name) reported back in the naughties on our intention to expand reservoirs and build a new one. The Eau (pun intended) told us to cease and desist, “how can we have water shortages if there are no water shortages”.
Richard or Peter? I think it was the father, would that be Peter? I’m getting too old for this.
Richard is the daddy. His colleague and friend was Booker, Christopher Booker.
……
JH: Ah.
The cash flow problem must be really, really serious for them to announce a return to the UK. Both kids
already enrolled in schools for September – could selling their place in Montecito to pay those massive legal bills be a factor? Or, has he been told he can’t stay beyond 5 years because he lied about drug taking on his US residency form?
They don’t own the place in Monty Sh1tshow. TRG did a deep dive on it – the house is for hire by the day if necessary. And they live separately. All smoke and mirrors.
Of now to fetch one of my pets. 😉🤭
Oops. Plan B – later! Closed for maintenance for a couple of hours.🏃
