Enid [the song]

So you remember Enid, do you not?

All right, I put a song together, using Van Morrison’s groove (Them) and it’s both easy and difficult to sing, to get your cues right. Early Van was very much live oriented, he improvised all over the place … not so much in the set verses (there are four of those below) … but in the manic choruses, starting … “And her name is …”

To get an idea how the original song sounded … HERE TIS.

Now the backing instrumental (no karaoke prompts, so you need to work your cues out) is:

[Notes: I suggest you come in near the end of the third phrase in the music and remember he sings all over the phrases, he doesn’t stick by them necessarily … it’s very free-for-all … he’s Northern Irish, remember.]

Wanna tell you about my baby
Well, she gives us such a thrill
About three foot four there
From the floor to the sill

Sits so still in wait now
Venus flytrap’s a sight
Makes us feel so good yeah
She makes us feel alright

And her name is E
N
I
D
D-D-D-D-D-D

All right Ee Ee Nid
Gonna shout it every night
Ee Ee Nid
Gonna shout it every day

[Notes: the music changes twice … first a louder change up for a few phrases … that’s the instrumental break cue …

… but eventually it changes down … let the first phrases pass by, then when the organ plays soft, start on verses 3 and 4, even repeat a verse if you want.]

Well she sits there so silent
Silent vigil all night
Makes us feel so secure now
(You know she) Makes us feel all right

Well she sits there so silent
Silent vigil all night
Makes varmints insecure now
Kills em right through the night

[Notes: The final manic screaming of Enid’s name, with random, improvised words thrown in at will, coincides with the manic outro. The sung outro you can throw anything into, all night, all day, whatever you like that fits the riff … till the end.]

All right Ee Ee Nid
Gonna shout it every night
Ee Ee Nid
Gonna shout it every day

Ok, I’ve just sung it through for the first time ever … leave sufficient musical phrases between each line and near the end, the cue for the naming again is a short, sharp drum rap.

Why Gloria as the song? For a start, it’s simple … any garage band’s first song learnt and we indeed were a garage band, called The Other Side. Trouble was, the words did not fit on the bass drum, so we changed our name to The League.

Our opening numbers were Gloria, Woolly Bully, Little Red Riding Hood and the Troggs’ Wild Thing. We tried The Yardbirds’ I’m a Man (Beck’s or Clapton’s, can’t remember) but sadly, the drummer was rubbish and the band left him. 😥

Story of my life.

Enid! What a lucky gal! If there is such a thing as l u c k!
Anyway, all of us gals are inserting our names in place of hers…that man eater!

I will put it in my song file entitled Song Dedicated to Enid With My Name Inserted Instead of HERS File!

Poor drummer. Wooly Bully, Little Red Riding Hood. He needs to watch out for wolves…and bull!

Hey that drummer…did he play for the Fab 4?

Having to wait to peruse today’s blog… but did spot the 🎼🎶🎵🎤 classics above 🥁🎸🎶🎵!
