Tuesday [11 till close of play]

(1648) Evening, chaps and chapesses, was too hot to blog earlier.

First this for context (linked at 1393), then this (also linked there). Interesting names of diabolo’s little helpers. Interesting guests in the Day of Atonement dinner. (Island man had been convicted before this event so it is reasonable to assume they were okay with supping with a convicted offender.)

Salt. Good or bad for you? If bad, why do hospitals inject it into you?

  1. 15. As I have mentioned elsewhere, with other Army recruits, I was advised to register with the council housing departments of the areas in which we wished to live on end of military service, so that we would rise up the housing list whilst serving. Contacting that department 6 or 12 months before discharge would give an idea of availability. This was in the 60’s, so have no idea of this advice is still given, or if councils still allow this. If social housing is no longer required, it is easier to come off the list then than get onto it.
Many NHS Trusts, mine included, participate in the military compact, where veterans suffering from ailments attained during military service, receive a fast track treatment process. Perhaps a requirement for these Trusts to confirm, or not, their participation in this compact is due?
Not every veteran automatically seeks a second career in Police, Fire and Rescue, or investigative roles, though have heard stories of DEI policies, or those politically opposed to employing ex military, affecting job hunters. Medics trained in combat roles, engineers, logistic, or communications experts are told to.provide processional or paper qualifications, with some employers demanding degrees! There was a time when military qualifications and practical experience were accepted. Not so much these days, it seems.
Perhaps Mr Lowe, as a sitting MP, could raise some of these topics in due course. If you’re reading this, Rupert, over to you.

  2. 12b. Unconfirmed reports that small boat invaders are refusing help from private boats, stating they will wait for the “government boats”. If true, we really are governed by numpties who hate this country and hold it’s citizens in contempt.
