Millions of UK households could face three-hour rolling power cuts under new emergency rules giving the National Energy System Operator (NESO) greater authority to respond to severe electricity shortages.
The new Demand Control Rotation Protocol allows NESO to introduce controlled regional blackouts with at least eight hours’ notice, without requiring prior government approval.

The measures are intended as a last resort when other options for balancing electricity supply and demand have been exhausted. Critical infrastructure including major hospitals, water treatment facilities and military sites would be protected.

Not much point me doing these … had a quick skim down the list … recognised a few artists but almost none of the songs. I simply was not listening to the radio in 74, more cassette compilations I made, always from albums. Eagles, Steely Dan, JJ Cale, whatever. And glam … simply passed me by, same with techno later. 80s was a complete blank for me for pop. Dolly Parton maybe, Susie Hoffs. Didn’t hear pop again until the 90s.

8. Out of Alberta – spent a good deal of the summer there in ’84, CFB Wainwright. Very hot working with what was then the Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment (DERR), 8 Commando Battery RA and a Gurkha mortar troop. The live firing almost got us killed when the guns fired on the OP (Observation Post) instead of the target – not the first time that’s happened to me. A young 23 year-old GPO (Gun Position Officer) was sent back to the UK for a Board of Enquiry. Pity, he was popular with the lads; rowing blue from Cambridge; good rugby player, etc. Final exercise, advance to contact manoeuvre with the infantry, at night, GPMG puts a line on bullets right in front of us. Company Sergeant Major goes ape on the private gunner who did it. Over the top if you ask me: kicked him in the head. After that it was R&R and I went canoeing and parachuting. Happy Days 🙂

10. Mrs H and I recently shocked ourselves by checking the prices displayed on an ice cream van. For those prices I’d expect a stylish van like the one in the photo.
