Demons not about in the least? Just a figment of my imagination? We’re not at all in the middle of a war, orcs lurking everywhere?

  1. Just listened to the Secretary of State for Defence, Dan Jarvis, talking bollocks in the House Of Commons. The Defence Investment Plan it was, almost a year late and not worth the paper it’s written on. Only this morning the Prime Minister was talking bollocks somewhere else, when he said his government would increase the lethality of our armed forces by a factor of ten. Yeah, with what mate? You and Boris gave most our kit to the Ukrainians.

The big takeaway for me is when the last of the Type 45 Daring-class destroyers is retired there’ll be no destroyers to replace them! The Type 83 has been scraped – replaced with something called a Common Combat Vessel. If that sounds cheap it’s because they are. About the size of the old Leander-class frigate a destroyer they ain’t. Destroyers have been the backbone of the Royal Navy for generations, indeed the US Navy call their Arleigh Burke-class destroyers the “tip of the spear”. They have 74, we’ll have none.

    JH: Aye.
