  2. We had a school reunion on the fifth anniversary of Leaving Day. It was the 23rd May: a day I remember well. Everyone at the Liberal Hall that evening was 21. Mr Scott, my form teacher and head of the maths department, was partly responsible for getting about 70 of us to attend a disco night, with free food and alcohol as bait. I bumped into him a few years later and he told me why he’d gone to such lengths to get us there that evening. He was chuffed that I was in uniform, with a green beret, as he lived quite close to RM Poole and knew the base well – his boy was an officer in the Royal Marines.

    Mr Scott was also one of the school’s two careers officers. The other was a lady at the Girl’s School, which was separate but on the same campus. The year before I left school the fifth year became mixed, and that would percolate down the years and was fully mixed by the time of the reunion. Mr Scott spent the evening asking everyone what they’d done after leaving school. So the reason for the do was a career related survey on us kids. I asked him how it went and he told me three-quarters of the lads had completed apprenticeships across 9 different trades. Further two had their own business and fourteen had a mortgage.

    Over 30 children came into the world from that class of ’73. One couple, who met in the 5th Form, went on to marry and produced three children by the time of the reunion. They were the stars of the evening. Ben Habib was on Talk Radio this morning and he spoke about the collapse of the skill base in this country. He’s right about the collapse but the start of it was 40 years ago, under Thatcher. She pushed the ‘service economy’ to such an extent that the nation where the Industrial Revolution began would see half of its industrial base off-shored under her leadership. It’s been downhill ever since.

  3. 15. Remember Brown, gold and pensions? – how about this for a horrifying statistic: The GDP per capita in the UK is lower than Mississippi, by the same measure the poorest state in the US. In other news almost 900 dinghy males of fighting age have entered the UK since Friday, courtesy of Border Force who provide a water taxi service 24/7. We’re poor for a reason and you can count them all.

When the Muslim Brotherhood announced that, after 700 years of fighting to make Europe an Islamic state has failed, and that the new policy is conquer Europe peacefully by immigration, both legal and illegal, all with the help of naive leaders and governments, and still nothing is done to stop it, it shows the competence of those leaders and governments. It is estimated that, within three generations, Islamists will no longer need to hide among the main political parties, but will be strong enough in numbers to come out of the shadows, enough to win elections and form a government. All because they took advantage of human rights legislation, which will be one of the first things cancelled by the Caliphate. We have been warned about this for years, but still no one in authority has done anything about it to avoid being accused of bigotry. George Orwell was right. He just got the date wrong.
