HERE

“Post Offices across Liverpool have suddenly closed “until further notice” as the firm cites “operational reasons”. The ECHO understands at least 10 Post Offices across the city have been closed, including Penny Lane, Woolton, Childwall, Hunts Cross and Croxteth.

A notice posted on the shutters (JH: Of one branch) read: “This branch is temporarily closed until further notice. Apologies for inconvenience.” People living in the area told the ECHO the Post Office was open and operational as late as Wednesday afternoon (November 5).”

JH: Whoa, hold on one moment … this is where I’m out of my depth, not getting out and having no TV. We did cover the P.O. thing when it happened … wasn’t some high up woman forced to return her gong and wasn’t Ed Davey implicated in it all? My understanding was that local post offices had ended and Royal Mail took it all over. No?

Anyone able to put us straight on this?

  1. 11. Not just Liverpool. Use your favourite browser to search “Post Office Branch Closures”. There are a lot of links, the earliest (on page 1 that I could be bothered skimming) from about 12 months ago, all suggesting that about 6000 of the nearly 12000 UK branches could be closed. In recent days 108 have closed for “operational or financial reasons”.
