Mercury dropping here on the south coast – zero predicted tomorrow morning and a cold week ahead. The headquarters of the Royal Armoured Corps is a short drive from where I live and when I visit an old friend who lives in nearby Lulworth you often hear the live firing. What’s that got to do with the price of fish? Well, we only have two regular army tank regiments and one reserve regiment (Royal Wessex Yeomanry) in todays Army. Sir Keir ‘boots on the ground’ Starmer needs to count the number of tanks fit for combat because the last I heard it was less than 40. For comparison during Combined Arms training back in the 80’s I saw almost as many as that (2 squadrons) on Salisbury Plain in one day.
