(0748) Well it turned out before 0800 anyway. 60%. Overcast, threatening rain out there but otherwise ok. (0827)
5. Faux conservatives?
Interesting question … can one be conservative, therefore free enterprise in this country, therefore capitalist, and yet opt for outsourcing overseas?

Morning James, been up since sparrow’s fart this morning. Get like this sometimes, brain running like a diesel engine with a faulty governor. Usually I run one of roughly seven hypotheticals in my mind – to get some mental equilibrium going. A good one is building an aircraft carrier in my head. Usually drop off before I get anywhere near the flight deck 🤣
Wish I’d bought a coffee mill with stainless steel grinding wheels. Mine are ceramic and after a year the edge has gone. Piss poor grind annoyed me no end this morning. Grumpy, lack of sleep. The lad who’s fitting a new burner to my gas fire is coming over this morning. He trained as a heating engineer after serving in the Royal Artillery for four years. He was impressed when I told I’d been a forward observer in 29 Commando RA. He was 26 Regiment RA.

They got a new upgrade last month so I’ll probably discuss it with him when he’s here. Relevant to the conflict in [The] Ukraine. Oh, and he’s a coffee man so I’ll be using coffee bags 🙂

a) France. According to an internal assessment by the National Directorate of Border Police covering the first nine months of 2026, which Valeurs Actuelles has obtained, 67 Algerian minors have been intercepted in the department since the start of the year, compared to 44 during the same period in 2025. This represents a 39 percent increase, with border police noting that the arrivals are exclusively male.
The southwestern French department [i.e. via Spain] has emerged as a primary entry point for unaccompanied Algerian minors, with pressure intensifying over the summer months.
b) Germany. It has been revealed that police in the northern German city of Bremen have for more than a decade advised participants in workplace safety seminars that deliberately inducing vomiting can be one way to interrupt an attempted sexual assault or rape.
Franka Haedke, a spokeswoman for the Bremen police, said the guidance is part of broader self-defence instruction offered by the department’s Central Police Prevention unit.
c) Germany. Germans Want Less Support for Ukraine, Poll Shows. A majority of Germans oppose continued Ukraine aid with 53 percent favouring reduced support, while the AfD leads federal polling at 30 percent, according to an INSA survey.
d) UK. Restore Britain was tipped off about internal Home Office documents showing special advisers approving or rejecting draft FOI requests, asking whether it may draw scrutiny if the information was released. Who controls what the public gets to see?
e) France – humour.
