That girl penelopepitstop is spot on. It wasn’t just hot in ’76, it was hot for 8 weeks – with no break. At the end the heavens opened up and there was flooding. We used to go from straight from work down to the sea to cool off. As I recall nobody ate much, but we were a much skinnier nation back then anyway. It could nudge 31°C here in Poole this afternoon, slight breeze going on which is always welcome. Went to my local Tesco superstore this morning and all the chilled-food cabinets are out of action – some of the freezers have also packed up. The don’t make stuff to last these days so all that food has gone to waste overnight.
