13. First the quote

I’m never comfortable with the word intelligence, as referring to IQ … seems fairly unintelligent to fixate on a number. As a leaver at the end of secondary, my parents had me professionally assessed and it was clear there were different categories … you could guess the ones I was highest in but I was fairly average on mechanical.
There are many university professors who are rated intelligence-high but I’ve found them useless in other spheres. Even were you to call me intelligent, I could list to you some gaping blank spots, esp. at a later age.
If we’re looking at the ability to think and anticipate … well yes, the quote makes sense, it makes a person initially reticent to engage and after that, the factor of experience, experiences too … increases. One negative in all of this is a certain coldness, either at times or nearly all the time. That can be wearing for friends … and wives. You might not be a loner, you might love company but the type of company you can stand … there’s the rub.
Taken to extremes, it’s this autistic thing I suppose.

… maybe called “probable cause”. Proof’s going to be more difficult.

13. Interesting, I’m not keen on IQ either, even though I’ve benefitted from traditional notions of intelligence in spite of many blank areas where I can’t even pretend to venture. I’ve also come across many traditionally intelligent people who were quite limited beyond popular consensus.
Whatever common sense may be, it seems to be more important that traditional intelligence.
