Remember the fish trains, that brought freshly caught fish almost from the quay side to the cities the very next morning? Or course railways ran from every port in those far off Betjeman days.
There is as much chance of those returning as there is of a shrinking private GPO, struggling among a host of UPS, DHL, Yodel, FedEx, et al., going back to rail. Rail just wants low maintenance Self-Loading-Cargo as well as entirely predictable cargo shuttle services like carting USA forests from a port to Drax.
