  1. Thanks – last of the series – a pity. The older I am, the more I find these films worth watching and watching again. Maybe Basil Rathbone was the best Sherlock Holmes, although in the past I’ve preferred Jeremy Brett, but there was never much in it.

    Basil Rathbone would have been excellent as R. Austin Freeman’s fictional detective, Dr John Thorndyke, but those films were never made, just a few TV versions, most of which the BBC managed to lose.
