  1. Fascinating! I knew most of this, but the specific temperatures & pressures for various gases was handy, and I’ve saved the clip. It explains why you’ll see a layer of frost round the bottom of a propane cylinder being used for serious work, such as roofing or road mending & line painting. It also explains why an ordinary butane camping stove or mantle light won’t work at sub zero temperatures, (or even very well at a few degrees above freezing). Most camping shops sell butane/propane mix canisters to get round this, but even they aren’t much use in really cold conditions. Explorers who venture up high mountains use petrol or paraffin stoves which don’t suffer in this way.
