Next to the bowser is one of those subterranean loos, they used to be everywhere in central London. Now they are all either closed or converted into cafes. Here in St. Albans there are four or five public conveniences which are now cafes. One of these was a magnificent building close to the Abbey, with enormous porcelain pissoirs, mosaic floor and tiled walls. Above was accommodation for the permanent cleaner. I think this one has been converted into a rather nice house.
MI6 (or is it 5?) are just off to the left there nowadays.
