Monday [6 to 9]

(0758) Just coming light … bleah out there. (0853)

9. Trafalgar

8. Aberfan October 21st, 1966

Bells of Rhymney preceded Aberfan but the spirit of the song fits the circumstances in 1966.

My thought on this is it’s a bit like speculators “shorting” … get in, making a big thing of it, get out. Dominion is reaching backlash stage, they’ll fight with litigation, get out, change the name, start over … the blackmailed will say nothing.

  1. 8. Aberfan October 21st, 1966 – We were called to assembly by our Headmaster, Mr Bennett. The whole of our junior school was then informed of the disaster. There were tears. Behind the closed serving hatch we could hear the dinner ladies crying in the kitchen. My Mum was the school cook, born and raised in the Rhondda, and like so who died the daughter of a Welsh miner. The lady teachers sobbed. The gentlemen teachers stood in silent shock. At the end our Deputy Headmistress, Mrs Grey, said the school would close after lunch. I was nine and I’ll never forget it. It is said that the one regret the late Queen Elizabeth had during her reign was Aberfan.
