Differences

… but not on all things. She said herself that she did not roam far and wide, which is fine … those across the pond are descendants of those who did … and the societies are more similar than the stay at homes often admit. Similar foundations at least.
Even within France, the difference between Gay Paree and the provinces and towns is quite marked, even for an English speaker to pick up on. Even between Brummieland here and the Black Country, there were marked differences … also between Lancs and Yorks. I’m in “enemy” territory over here right now.
Then comes the politics … Wokery and antiWokery … I can’t see how the two can reconcile. Once the conflagration with the fighting invaders starts though … what then? Sometimes it’s just attitude … fighter versus treehuggers.
Check out these accents … I adore both:

Southern US:
Was just thinking though … the female holding it that way has less o shoot off than the male.
Differences – you would expect me to have an opinion on the West Country accent, James? I do. The man in the video is from my region, or at least grew up in some part of it, however his accent is sterile, no more than what you’d hear on TV or radio today. The accent I knew as a child is virtually disappeared. Take my Nan’s lodger of many years, whose name alone would put you back in the time of Thomas Hardy. When he spoke his delivery was almost melodic, his remarks about the weather were like listening to a poem. As I recall he was born in a tiny village near Shaftsbury around 1908. Folk today wouldn’t understand a word he said. His dialect was rooted in Saxon English, a rural language that even the Great Vowel Shift failed to eradicate completely. Accent is one thing, dialect another.

JH: Awwwww, that’s lovely. Now I need to ask Toodles to check out the girl’s accent.
