Isilme reports

Lady Isilme and her Beloved Bob are heavily involved in an ongoing project just now and whilst they’re keeping up with our doings, time is at a premium. This below is connected to or the occasional break from the project. We also discuss our respective culinary masterpieces but today is just Crafts.

“Just lately my knitting has been diverted from socks to hats. Well, one hat. I knitted myself a beret. I probably ought to now burst into French but unfortunately je suis very bad at it. I was surprised at how easy it was to knit. I always thought of berets as very complicated, but it just looks that way. The wool I used is what they call self-striping – dyed different colours at intervals along the yarn, and when you knit it you don’t have to change colours, it just happens.”

“I have, of course, still been knitting socks. I always have a sock on the knitting needles. Currently I’m knitting a pair of man’s socks and the pattern is called ‘hug me’. I think the name is because of the fancy ribbing that keeps the sock hugging your foot. But if my Beloved thinks it means he has to hug me when he wears them, that’s fine by me šŸ˜ Again, the socks are knitted with self-striping yarn. I’m part-way through the second sock. When they’re finished, they will go to one of our recent visitors who took a liking to them.”

  1. Could’ve done with a pair of those socks the other night – it was freezing cold. They look just the job!

    • They would certainly have done the trick. They are mostly wool – which makes them warm and cosy – with a bit of acrylic mixed in so that they can be washed in the washing machine without shrinking.
