  1. Re #22 – Ms Daye said she has just spent the last 3 years living in England, and watched their LABOUR government destroy the place. Do we assume she was living in London and means Mayor Khan’s left wing mob, NOT the national government?

    ……

JH: Think she was jumping from one to the other there.

  2. Is it true that Western Crusaders so weakened Constantinople that its eventual defeat by Moslems became inevitable? As far as I can see, “yes”. Grim, eh?

When people bang on about the Crusades maybe they should mention the crusades against the (Christian) Cathars in southern France and against the (Orthodox Catholic) Christians in Constantinople. But I don’t suppose they will. They tend not even to mention the crusades against pagans in the Baltic area.

    ……

JH: Don’t forget that they were Franks in tunics and chainmail.

    • Be careful to recognise that ‘The Crusaders’ and the ‘Crusade against the Cathars’ are two different events. I studied both several years ago andI cannot remember that the Crusaders (as an organisation) participated in the slaughter of the Cathars. They may have as individuals as the two events were roughly the same time.
