15. Some years ago an American tourist asked me to direct him to the train station. I said, do you mean the railway station. After I had directed him he asked why the train station was so far from the town centre. I told him that it was to be close to the railway line. Why are we all speaking American these days. There’s a TV commercial which has a girl counting down the seconds while dunking a biscuit. All very English so far, she then spoils it with one Mississippi… two Mississippi, when in English it should be one hippopotamus etc. I think it’s high time for a pedant’s revolt.
