5. While serving at the MoD, when Petticoat Lane was still called that, visited the market with a young WRAC I was somewhat enamoured with. This was at a time when ladies right were made with a seam down the back, like posh nylons. While perusing the stalls, to show my interest, I paid for the pack of tights she chose,, together with a couple of shirts for myself. Later that day, when she opened the pack, we saw that these tights not only had seams down the back, but also down the front! While laughing at this, I opened the boxes of shirts to discover that there was only a square of the front of the shirt, and the collar, with half of a sleeve folded and pinned to the front. Not only did I never return to Petticoat Lane, but the young lady met a hulking Royal Marine, also stationed at the MoD. Happy memories!
