  1. 16. I switched to lard, dripping and butter ghee about ten years ago. Although I have always been slim my waist expanded after retirement by a couple of inches. Since the change in my diet that two inches has gone. Of all the supermarkets Morrisons is the only one near me which sells all three fats. Everyone I mention this to thinks I’m mad.

  2. During the war, we kids were fed dripping sandwiches; or butter and sugar sandwiches. I can still remember the ‘crunch’ as one bit off a piece of sugar sandwhich.

Jars of Goose fat is readily available in certain French supermarkets.

After the ‘flu, a little more than a year ago. I lost 10kg, with very low protein levels. Eating fatty meat soon restored me. I have an old book “Eat fat, get thin”. One needs fat to burn the body fat.

  3. 17. Rats and other varmints onboard – the photo is either one of our two aircraft carriers, the Queen Elizabeth or Prince of Wales – the giveaway is the double islands, unique to this class. Also the ski-jump at the bows. We don’t have a rat problem, we have gremlins. Lots of them.
