  1. Very good special effects for 1933 and a strange role for Claude Rains because of course we hardly saw him, only heard his voice. Highly rated by reviewers and I’m not surprised, it was well done with touches of humour in spite of the deaths and destruction.

    One of the policemen looked as if he was supposed to remind us of Bruce Bairnsfather’s Old Bill character of the Great War – to add a touch more humour perhaps.
