(1734) Evening all. Thanks for the comments today, have read them, much to post at this moment.
22. Quite liking this new commentator
Every day I get asked the question, “How could you possibly be a woman who supports Donald Trump?”
I just spent the last few years living in England and watched the Labour government (the leftist party) sacrifice the safety of women and children for power in the name of DEI.… pic.twitter.com/XvZTbfvRKa
“If they had beefed up the dialogue, replaced the rather wooden actors, and cut the running time from 70 minutes to 50 minutes. It actually has an ironic ending that is worthy of the master of suspense.
You can see where this film is going from a mile away. Valerie Bancroft is a young heiress who has a fatal heart condition. She and her paid companion, Marsha, decamp from New York and go to California for the sunshine and hope that it will improve her life expectancy – she should live a year at the most. While in California, they meet con man Ricardo De Villa. He claims to be a businessman from South America who is using the lull in business to holiday in California.
Instead he is broke, wants to run off with the female half of a professional dance team, and does not have the money to do so. Marsha told him about Valerie’s heart condition hoping he would cut down on all of the night life with Valerie if he knew. Instead he woos and marries Valerie, hoping that the increase in activity, which she loves, will kill her off early. And even if it doesn’t, a year is not so long to wait to inherit Valerie’s money. Complications ensue.
Nobody in this film is that bad, but one part is done very badly. That would be the part of the cuckolded ballroom dancing husband, Don. He hardly ever says anything. But he is always looking around corners and either following his unfaithful wife or Ricardo. Another role is done rather hilariously. Don’s cheating wife, Fritzie, is always dressed in one of her ballroom dancing gowns no matter what the surroundings. She could be on the beach or in the supermarket and there she would be, conspicuously dressed to the nines.
… though certain men are making the running, as they do, that can be bad or good. At the same time, they are staffed by a flood of females, again bad (Rachel from accounts, Clinton etc.) but also good … they get the bit between the teeth and refuse to lay off, which is precisely what’s needed in westwide punditry right now.
The thing with women is … while they believe in you, they are lionesses defending some one theirs … but if the Blair, Alistair Campbell, whoever loses them, then the miscreants are already on the way out … because women do not hold back, esp. on bad women. Later I have two shorts by Jed Bila and those two shorts show everything a man should know about women.
This is a core reason I think we on this side of politics, trying to restore order, MUST combine men plus women, not one, not the other but side by side … in turn, children observe that and learn.
This below is par for the course for the ladies:
This is the most jaw-dropping 4 minutes and 21 seconds you will watch this year.

… not because I don’t buy that it happened … it most probably did … but the whole topic disgusts me:
8. Colleen Moore
Never let it be said that we do not profile noted women here, albeit occasionally … this lady I’ve always been intrigued by, as she was a massively popular star of her day, commanding large weekly fees, with one film costing $1m, recouping it in a few months.
She was the first to model the new “flapper” bob, later popularised … forever … by Louise Brooks … and another “forever girl” was her friend, initially her idol … Lillian Gish … she had two major loves, Colleen did … acting plus dolls and dolls houses, all her life.
Wiki is rubbish on anything political, yes, but on things like this, it’s definitive … do read it fully if you would … quite a story:
My search question can be guessed in this response:
She was one of those women of the time in Hollywood who were their own people, sane, astute, knew how to invest her earnings, having had a rough intro to the film industry, she later joined an investment firm once it was apparent that her future was not in talkies. Sadly, just like today where women who are driven to being Boss Girls end up with money cats and regrets … but also not in the same way … Colleen Moore was shrewd behind the ingenue image she projected (as was Gish) … Colleen kept remarrying.
Anyone who knows of the era knows of Clara Bow, Louise Brooks, Lillian Gish, Annette Hanshaw but Colleen Moore? Maybe many today see the pictures and think Brooks or Gish … when it’s actually Moore.
Once more … why? Why not known to the same extent? Well, the deterioration of the films which were given to a museum and the “curator” just left them open on the shelf … certainly that was a huge factor. But there’s also another imho. Some people are fine in almost all respects but something in their face, manner, even intelligence, is not so much offputting as it stops people warming to them.
Just the very factor of being in control of their business, their life … well it leaves no room for emotion, warm fuzzy feelings. Wanting to play the ingenue in film, seeing how popular that was with the wartorn public … there was just some X factor which allowed people to simply forget her later … time and events do move on. She was, at heart, conventional. That’s that.
