First the cunning plan … most don’t need these over explanations … but as some do need them to place my movements, sort of signalling it is … that’s why it’s here. First up for this slot today was Black Belt Barrister (too political for a feature), one from Gab from Stonewall Jackson (possibly at Jstack soon), one from a strange girl (on Romulus and Remus), Pod People from IYE (thumbnail made and ready), one from Andy (in the main posts), some Baroque for DAD, some jazz needs finding for later … and this.
Why all these ladies? I find them soothing, nice as hosts … whereas BBB is better for hardhitting items, politically. Anyway:
5. Sun 6 will be about past colleagues and friends
… not a list, just in general.
4. Tertiary institutions are almost worthless now
… as for the supposed bits of paper … don’t make me laugh.
“This is what higher education has turned into — taxpayers funding fringe ideology disguised as ‘research.’ These aren’t PhDs; they’re political statements soaking up public money while serious fields struggle for funding. Academia has become a playground for activism, not a pursuit of knowledge.”
3. Good girl!
All ladies should have their immediate counterattack plans in place … plus something hard in the handbags.
a. France and DAD … I know it’s hypocritical to rail against clickbait and I singularly refuse to take it when I suspect the blogger is trying it on … then with DAD and Steve, I do just that to you because to ustd France this day for example, it’s necessary to see it in situ, that is at NOWP and at the end of those links, not in my abridged summary here.
b. Then we get to this tavern being a constant haven and not just this one either … my most consistently visited are AKH and Roobee. I’ve noticed Longrider’s kept up the posting, Julia, Vox … you have your go-tos … we need everyone posting, not necessarily proliferating, maybe UHC is a bit OTT … it’s some sort of constancy in the swirling surge of society down to the sewer which makes us baulk and say no way.
c. Then I think of the nomenclature … for example this place being called nourishing unherdables, for want of thinking up a different name. The notion of the lighthouse on the promontory works as an idea, some sort of beacon, with many beacons up and down the country, each with taverns, outhouses, stables, chapels. What about the whole estate, property though, inc. up river? Riberboat, huts etc.?
Yep … that seems to work but what to call the whole place? Estate? Property? Site? Sites? It does sprawl a bit, does it not? Is it presumptuous to call this one NW Haven for Unherdables, “the haven” for short? Imho, it works when seen as one of various havens up and down the country, plus over in the southern USA. That works, methinks.
Way back in the days of Python, on one elongated stay in Oz, we had the idea of a various havens dotted across the city … we called them Brucehavens … it did work, but by phone. We’d phone and say, “Morning Bruce.” We were all Bruce. Someone had to say, “Mind if we call you Bruce to keep it clear?”
As you’d all be aware, that sort of insanity kept us all sane. The other day, some chap from Rutland tweeted and asked what we thought of Rutland. I commented, “Uber alles?” He latched on immediately. New mutual follower.
This haven was at its highest point in some ways (NO I mean) during the Wallace and Grommit days of Nick Park. We had a reader page … guestposters it was called, plus the notion of Wesleydale on the moon was large. The later Bloghounds became way too serious for my liking.
d. To finish up … just what point am I trying to make? No idea. Let’s invent one … maybe that culture is far more than geography and language, it’s also shared something-or-other. Probably. And when some barbarians crash it, we savagely turn on them like the good people of Krikkit. “Ooze ee, Bruce? Eeve arf a brick at im!”

France. Lecornu tries to form a government. The right and left both say that they will not support him. One of the centre parties say that they will support him with a budget, but no more.
a) In bypassing Marine Le Pen’s surging National Rally (RN) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s oppostion La France Insoumise (LFI), Macron has effectively shut out millions of French voters from the decision-making process.
b) In a post on X, Bardella accused President Emmanuel Macron of being “more isolated and disconnected than ever at the Élysée” ….
c) ‘Les Republicians’ party offer only support for the budget….
d) President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on Monday, October 13, 2025, to demonstrate his “support for ….
