As someone living in the south, but from that part of the country, it was nice to hear about that area, though amused over the pronunciation of Barnard Castle. The second ‘ar’ is usually cut short to an ‘a’, giving Barnad Castle. When my American friends visited, they pronounced it with a short, first ‘ar’, as in Banard Castle. I won’t mention them telling me about visiting Worcester!
English place names can be funny.
