About 15 years ago at a New Year drinks do I fell in love with the hosts’ West Highland Terrier. Happily he fell in love with me too: a wunnerful way to start a New Year.
……
JH: Awwwww.
In France most people are afraid of black dogs. I found this out when I first came to France and joined a rambling group. I have always had an affinity with dogs and have an inbuilt ability to know if a dog is friendly (most are) or not. As we walked in the countryside there were often farm dogs about us.The members of the group used to ask, ” John, is this dog friendly?” I looked at a dog and could say, “Yes” or, “No” or sometimes, “I think so”.
They were amazed that sometimes a dog would approach the group and come straight up to me for a stroke and cuddle, ignoring the others. When I was a boy, I could never pass a cat or dog without stroking it. My elder daughter was/is the same.
16. Dog – my contribution to this conversation is an encounter I’d rather forget. Walking the dog was a twice daily activity and we were blessed living near a route that took us through what’s called a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This particular day was no different from any other but when we arrived at the point where a public path crosses our route, and intersects with a bridge over a stream, our walk descended into violence. My springer was about 20 yards ahead of me when he approached a bloke who was crossing the bridge – he’s completely harmless and his tail never stops wagging.
So the bloke then kicks my dog in the face, hard. The dog yelps and withdraws behind me. I see the bloke is foreign; middle Eastern, probably Moose Limb. I didn’t say anything: just picked him up by the collar and belt and threw him in the stream. He screamed something Arabic at me and ran off. Dog had a small cut on his nose and some bruising around his muzzle but he soon recovered. Though it was 8 years ago I did know then that dogs are ‘haram’ to followers of the Religion of Peaceâ„¢. That is all
