“Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71, according to US reports. The professional wrestling star gained worldwide recognition in 1983 after joining the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now referred to as WWE. “After two business partners take out double indemnity life insurance policies on each other, one of them dies in a questionable “accident.” Ace insurance investigator Richard Denning, posing as a real estate agent, comes to town to find the truth. This 1951 programmer has all the good qualities of a Republic picture– first rate supporting cast (Reed Hadley, Hillary Brooke, Roy Barcroft), exciting pacing and editing, an efficient and fast-moving script. Richard Denning (best known to younger audiences for his sci-fi films and for his appearances on HAWAII FIVE-0)has just the right combination of sauveness and toughness needed for this type of role. There are enough plot twists and mounting danger to keep everything moving at a fast pace, and overall the film is recommended to fans of 40s/50s B crime films.”
Also near the raspberries was an empty tub waiting to receive pretty flowers. Well, it had soil in it. Not terribly brilliant soil, but a poppy took a liking to it and was looking very delicate in the sunshine. And talking of poppies, I was walking to a friend’s house and came across a ‘drain poppy’!!
Drain poppy
The house martins have babies again, and what a racket they make in the mornings! I’m not sure if this is the second or third lot they’ve had this year. Our next door neighbour says there’s a swift nesting somewhere nearby as she’s seen it quite often. I hadn’t noticed! They all fly so fast though. I can’t keep track of them. Mr and Mrs blackbird picked the last of the blackcurrants but I let them. I have six jars of blackcurrant jam, so that’ll do us until next year.

Clearing the craft room is still ongoing, and I came across a daily planner. I don’t know what this modern thing is where they put capital letters at odd places throughout the word, but it’s very silly. This daily planner was covered with the word ‘notes’ and had done this odd capital letter thing. Sadly, rather than the word ‘notes’, all I can see is ‘snot’ all along the bottom of the page. It’s terribly off-putting and is probably why it’s been festering in the craft room unused! Needless to say, I didn’t notice it until after I’d bought it. (Sorry about the dark photo – don’t know what went wrong there).
Associated with this are the new Woke designs of bank notes, rendering any currency you do hold in notes no longer legal tender, unless you deposit it in your now govt monitored a/c, explaining how you had that cash to deposit.
At the same time, two days ago, I was asked to do something … in all likelihood innocently but even so … it would have compromised my bank a/c in the light of UK developments.
I’d say minimise any banking activity for security reasons.

Please note that the DAD and Steve NOWP signposts at HQ are not comprehensive summaries but just abridged, to notify readers that they’re now posted over there.
a) France. A wave of violence has swept the country in recent weeks….
b) Poland. Marches under the slogan ‘Stop Immigration’ took place across Poland on Saturday, July 19th, including in Bialystok, Krakow, Poznan, Warsaw, and Wroclaw.
c) Ukraine. Mass protests against Zelensky’s regime have begun in Kiev.
d) According to France 3 Provence-Alpes, it was international cocaine trafficking that indirectly uncovered a sprawling corruption scandal within Semivim, the Martigues social housing agency.
1. Housekeeping
Readers will notice, sooner or later, that the UHCWP sidebar has been revamped again, for ease of admin (Mr. Bureaucracy Jimbo).
Shorts
The cunning plan with the shorts is as in the blurb in 1 to 5 over there:
“These, as the sidebar heading and post heading suggest, are readers’ short recollected comments from any of the sites HQ, NOWP, Jstack or here. The first twenty have been copied from comments threads, they’re by no means comprehensive, they’re in no particular order … yet.”
Further cunning fwd thinking is to maybe open those to comments (they’re currently closed). Shall see.
Longs
HQ is really not for long, discursive rambles or even rants … it’s possibly not a safe place for long personal stories … which incidentally are most welcome … HQ is more for hard hit (meaning we get hit, often) polit-items of the moment, interspersed with various mini features, plus films and music of course.
It’s a distribution centre in a way, of links, signposting, it’s a working site pointing outwards to things going on. It’s also the one where things can (rarely, hopefully) be lost … there’s a touch of the ephemeral to it, though it does pack some power. It deals in short pieces, not discursive.
