Reader Microdave commented yesterday on the film of Croydon Airport posted here.
“What an excellent filum! I have (somewhere) a VHS tape of “The Last African Flying Boat” which followed an attempt at recreating the old Imperial Airways routes, using a Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina. Whilst a more modern design than the aircraft shown here, its cruising speed wasn’t that much faster, and the view out must have been wonderful on a good day – not so in bad weather, which none of these machines could climb above.”
I promised to chase up … it would be today for the 8 a.m. slot but Microdave last evening wrote:

The same aircraft featured in this documentary is currently for sale:

It appears to have become a victim of that evil ***** J Ardern, and her over zealous CV lockdowns…”
I went to Wiki this morning as a first stop and it had this. Cunning plan now is to explore the fate of the flying boat afap and report back sometime today.
