10. Doonhamer on Andy’s “pensioners enlisting”
There was once a time when I would have fought for Queen and Country (UK, cos I am a patriotic Scot), but got diverted into working in a defence industry for Queen and Country. Working with industry and MoD engineers who genuinely wanted to produce the best for our services.
But now I would not fight for this King and this EU. And the defence industries are multinationals, much like in USA, producing expensive rubbish. COBRA radar, JP233 bomb, AJAX armoured vehicle, Phoenix drone, SA80 rifle, destroyers that overheat when operating in tropics, not one, but a pair of Aircraft Carriers that need an escort of Fleet Auxiliary Vessels to keep feeding them fuel oil – when they have not broken down.
9. Murderous govts in lockstep

There’s another word for this going on … satanic.
10. Doonhamer on Andy’s “pensioners enlisting” – leaving the army I went back into the industry that trained me as a boy – this time I chose aerospace engineering which uses different materials to the ones I was used to. Most of the work I did was MOD and my department did some work on the BAE Phoenix. To cut a long story we had to overcome a problem with recovery and after much testing we got the parachute system to work. I made the parts. One of the design engineers was surprised when I told him about the purpose of the drone as its mission was classified at the time. After I told him I’d been a forward observer he got the connection: surveillance and target acquisition was my line of work and Phoenix was going to 32 Regiment RA, and I had served in 29 Commando Regiment RA. Small world is the army 😉
My company also made parts for the JP233 LAAAS, a low altitude munition – used by 617 Squadron RAF in Gulf War I. Who else but the Dambusters, eh? We made the hard points for the wing pylons and the wing pylons themselves. We also made other parts for this submunition pod during the war. Awesome effect but also controversial as one version (area denial) leaves anti-personnel mines all over the place.
