Thursday [20 till close of play]

(1614) If you can see your way clear to putting in a prayer … as you know, Alabama has storms, tornadoes … Toodles is taking shelter in the inner room at her place, it’s apparently about to hit. I’d also like prayers for our other chaps and chapesses too but maybe they’re not facing this sort of storm just now … maybe there’s something they are enduring though. As for me, definitely on the mend.

Update (1657): Storm appears to have passed where they are. You see, it worked, didn’t it?

27. Whilst on the topic of trials and coverups …

26. Some music to light up our evening

Incidentally, the rent boys’ trials are set down for D Day. Curious, that.

25. DAD with Gorgeous George

Another mystery in the Macron B v. Macron E fisty-cuffs.

Just after Round 1 this young lady appears at the door, uniform shoulder ripped and bloody. Who is she? Why is she there?

A Stewardess? Why is she wearing high-vis?

Ground crew? How did the shoulder become injured? Did she enter via the rear stairs? Why has she come forward to the VIP part of the plane in her distressed state?

It’s a riddle.

“An unusual film, this slow-burner starring Joan Bennett and James Mason seems like a straight-forward murder and blackmail case, but that’s only part of the story. Joan Bennett is the mother living apart from her husband (he’s working away), and coping with her growing son and daughter, and their maid. James Mason is an Irish low-life, who hopes to make money from Bennett’s family misfortunes.

From the start, where we see the ‘murder’ and find out what really happened, to the startling ending, this film, directed by Max Ophüls, grips. Aside from the two leads, Geraldine Brooks is good as the teenage daughter struggling with a lost love affair and the hormonal rage of puberty; and Kathryn Card is suitably condescending as she refuses to loan money to the increasingly desperate Bennett.

‘The Reckless Moment’ has a frisson of noir, and a strong script. It is a minor film, certainly, but a rewarding one.” (IMDb)

Although there is a division between the Church and the State in France, Ascension Day is a ‘Bank Holiday’ here. There is the tradional big cycle race in my village today. Teams come here from all over west-central France.

Just thought I’d keep the colour scheme of the tiles going a bit longer. Pale pink, darker pink and purple. Co-ordinated. 🙂

Ascension Day [5 to 7]

(0821) Confess I didn’t know it was ADay, except that DAD said. I’ve been out of it since yesterday, night was a bit rough but starting to see light on this … sorry to be cryptic but needs must. Ok, who to insult today then?

Let’s make it Redacted, ha ha … now, with enormous respect … and I did ask for euphemism and code … but dear sir … difficult for us to decipher your cipher (was going to send it to Bletchley in the time machine (WW2). Er, may I suggest a tad more accessible for us plebs? (0937)

a) From a British mother to a German pensioner, ordinary people are being harshly punished for blunt words uttered in frustration at a ruling political class that has betrayed them.

b) According to the final results of the legislative elections published Wednesday, May 28, the Chega officially becomes the leading opposition party in Portugal, a turning point in the country’s political landscape.

c) A new study by Swedish think-tank the Scandinavian Policy Institute (SPI) has warned that the promotion of wind power as being cost-effective and reliable was misleading — at best.

d) The President is said to have been angry that the report was publicised at all, and has since worked to downplay its findings (on Msl infiltration).

5. Ascension Day

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feast_of_the_Ascension

Going to ever so gently suggest that if this is not our specific festivity … it’s certainly that of a significant proportion of the world’s population. This is not a political tract, this item, it is a commemoration and I really shall use the delete button if you get my drift.

Enjoy the day, dear reader.

Thursday [1 to 4]

(0351) This is more last night’s holdovers than Thursday. Have been not a well cat since mid afternoon yesterday … I see some good signs but some way to go. Meanwhile clearing the backlog. (0426)

4. The Reform trap

Do I think any of the Uniparty … LibLabConGreenLeft have any answers? Of course not. Of the unrepresented … us … a largish percentage of demi-thinkers and near-not-ferreters-in-the-least see only Reform and as there’s no other party per se … and as this section of the unrepresented can only think in terms of formal parties … plus powerwielding is set up around that … that’s what’s going on n British politics.

On the other hand, you only need see this below to be reminded that it’s a trap … Zia, Farage and Tice/Oakeshot:
