  1. There are quite a range of YT comments on no.3. I don’t recall Hokum Trio before but enjoyed all three, old and fairly new.

JH: Opinion was divided on that last one.

  2. Liked ’em all. I’ve got an Alex Hill CD, I have. Musicianly chap. On the excellent Dutch label “Timeless Historical”.

We used to have an excellent CD shop in town, specialising in jazz and classical. When I heard they were closing I hurried round to see what I should scoop up. I said to the owner “I suppose the jazz-loving generation is ageing and dying.” He said “That’s not the problem. The problem is that The Young don’t buy classical music anymore.” I thought of the classical records I bought as a fresher and cried a figurative tear. They don’t know what they’re missing. They prefer Scheissmusik I suppose.

JH: There’s quite a divide around 1997 and going way back, maybe 1965, when pop/rock dropped in quality soon afterwards. I for one can’t understand why we in the west cannot appreciate the best within various genres … why we are so tied to only one or two and nothing inventive or of quality could possibly exist outside those narrow confines.
