First a not bad short movie:
And now a moaning rant about the film I did have up an hour ago:
Naive to think that after I posted After The Thin Man, with its perfect print, great acting, chemistry between Powell and Loy, that it was actually going to be the film for Good Friday. No such luck … youtube are not going to allow good films in such perfect condition … it was a four minute excerpt … good excerpt too. Plus radio versions. Plus people discussing films.
Now, I did find the entire film in the end but it was in around twenty parts of around four minutes each … near impossible to load in the given time onto a blog. I’ll try in a few days, see how it goes.
This one above seems not bad and I for one like this formula … everyone to his or her own I suppose but I like reasonable B scripts, a nice lady protagonist who can handle herself, whilst being for him, ultrafeminine (too much to ask?), plus a pleasant, confident leading man whose confidence is justified but who’s also flawed in some way, whilst being susceptible to her big time, plus a good supporting cast.
Again … too much to ask? You can keep your horror, slo-mo violence, overt sex (I prefer the waves crashing on the shore bit), so not after the 60s and not pre-code … and the characters need to mean what they’re doing, get into the part.
That’s an A film, you say? Maybe … but some good Bs do slip through now and then … quite a job to find them though. …/END.
Reviews aren’t great for some reason, maybe because it is light-hearted for a not unfamiliar story about a newspaper reporter battling both crime and the police. An entertaining hour though and a good cast, although the female lead was attractive but a little too dizzy.
……
JH: Contrast the portrayal of the female in this with today’s films.
