19. We shall remember them – indeed we should. Things were very raw in the minds of folk 105 years ago. The Great War had just killed and maimed one and a half generations of European men. Millions dead; even more millions badly injured, and untold numbers psychological scared for life. So where are we today after all that suffering – a suffering that was repeated for a second time two decades later? A new war may be here soon only this time the political class, the ideologues, will be firmly against us:
