There are two issues in this post … first, of course, the engineering itself … and this Texas panhandle man’s engineering and presentation is pretty good, despite occasional music drowning it out … he does know his stuff, does do his homework.
I find myself in a bit of a quandary though … the second issue is him, himself, our Grady. What’s wrong with him? Nothing. Nothing’s wrong.
However.
In previewing so many films and episodes and documentary shorts, there are occasionally decisions which must not be named, hush hush. An example was The History Guy with his bowtie (no, not Martin) and the unfortunate voice and accent … point is, no one attacked him, no one suggested anything wrong … seemed a nice guy … worked hard on his presentation. Like Grady in this one.
And yet … and yet … people did not … sigh … warm to him so much. I’m thinking we’re unfair to people. In my own case, the mongrel accent, the “overweening arrogance in manner”, the “going to give this one a pass” … it may even be how the guy looks in my and other cases. I do understand it. Feminazis, for example, can’t stand me, a toxic male. Nor can middle management types on the way up. I’m not worshipful enough.
With Grady, he’s not (cough) a presenter type … actually, he’s an engineer. And for Brits, that panhandle, high voice. Many people I think see this and feel a wave of sympathy for an honest toiler. He’d not be able to get away with the dlightest creepiness and thankfully, that’s not the issue.
DAD mentioned not being crazy for soprano women’s voices … I can half see that … after a few minutes, it can get wearing. In my own case, it’s the flatness in the voice which puts people to sleep … comes through in the prose if I’m not careful.
I’m not totally sure with Grady, it’s not if you like or don’t like … I’m thinking it’s more “can you warm to a series from him”? Jago’s starting to annoy, Ruairidh ditto. Lefty wimmin? Goes without saying. Tulsi? A bit too deeply masculine for mine.
And so on. In the normal run of life, it hardly matters perhaps but in a presentation … ah. Yes.
