The vital role of cider

Again, this narrator has been criticised … last time for the children’s instructional manner, today for constant repetition of key points. This is not really his fault … it’s the fault of the medium, the youtube rules as well, how they have to pad vlogs out, whereas blogs can vary their output and its form.

Having said all that, it’s still interesting in its key points. I like the chap.

New Year’s Day [2 to 5]

(0817) Gates sky and cold out there. Ta for the kind words but I could easily send the same to you chaps and chapesses. And in the end, we’re only as good as our last post. (0914)

3. DAD at 1249

a) Andrew Bridgen … The problem in the house building trade in the UK. Why houses are not being built. It’s not about planning permission.

b) As France prepares to enter an intense period of elections—municipal in 2026, legislative and presidential in 2027—the way French voters think about politics is starting to change, with opposition to the far-left, particularly La France Insoumise (LFI), now outweighing the long-standing desire to block the right-wing Rassemblement National (RN).

c) A long-running criminal case against Gunnar Beck, a former Member of the European Parliament for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has imploded before a Neuss North Rhine-Westphalia district court.

d) Can a Statue be the victim of Sexual Assault? Parisian feminists prefer wasting their energy defending the rights of a statue over preventing attacks on real women.

2. The Iranian situation

Let’s open with this:

I wrote (a couple of days ago I think) that all this in Iran is good but the regime are cowards … they’ll wait till the fervour subsides, runs out of steam, then hit at pinpoints with thugs, acting with grotesque, demonic brutality

Forget not the situation in Brazil as well with Bolsonaro. Some more reports, remembering that the most penetrating will be Israeli:

New Year’s Day [1]

(0759) Predictably late start, Happy New Year, going to open proceedings by expanding a post just up at OoL. (0809)

This was my opening at OoL:

Greetings on New Year, readers … Julia spoke for both of us last evening.

We tend at Orphans to run mainly Britcentric fayre but do mention events in other places. Thinking what to put up this morning, what crystallised in the blurry NYD brain was why not post just a few street scenes, including those in Iran, which is the main news coming out at 7:30 a.m. GMT.

Going to post some Brit, one Amsterdam and one Tehran scene below. At Unherdables, I’ll expand the Iran situation as a separate post item.
