Sat Mat

Review:

“Despite its title, She-Wolf of London contains no werewolves, but I still enjoyed this movie. It is more of a mystery than a horror.

A series of murders take place, all at night, around London. The nature of these murders suggest they have been committed by a werewolf. A young woman thinks she is responsible as her family has connections with werewolves and thinks she is one herself. But she certainly isn’t the murderer as she nearly becomes a victim herself…

The movie is nicely shot in black and white and some of the foggy night scenes are very atmospheric.

The cast includes a young June Lockhart (who went on to play Maureen Robinson in Lost In Space), Don Porter and Sara Haden.

Watching She-Wolf of London is an ideal way to spend an hour one dark evening.”

Woodstock from a distance

… geographically, culturally and age-wise. Here’s a youtube about bands refusing to play Woodstock … interesting in itself … and here are some comments on the bands who didn’t:

I read in comments that Joni Mitchell was ill that weekend, who knows? It’s not the theme of this post. This post is about why I’d not have gone, had I known it would turn out as it did … the social scene for a start, the mud, the diseases, the drugs. Even the music … live is not always better than studio … occasionally it’s better, ya takes yer chances I suppose.

For a start, I was never into that “free love stuff” with people about whom you’d think … don’t know where they’ve been. Was always after possibilities … not for nooky but for stepping out one-to-one if you could find someone similarly minded … even at 15, that had been my thang and there were certainly still girls around also of that mind.

Festivals, as in weekend away? Three times at various universities I was at … lean pickings really, plus one festival I went to with mates and matesses … one gathering in the woods rather than festival … that was my list … poor result?

That’s looking at those days through the eyes of my younger self … not quite as fussy as now but much of this fussiness now is knowing about things such as Laurel Canyon, Topaka, the CIA/FBI/psyops, the drug pushers, the chem labs, about John Phillips who was a major player at getting drugs distributed, along with wife Michelle, Mama Cass, rest of that scene … Melcher, Manson, filmmakers, murdered singers … and so on and so on … let alone the NY scene on the other coast.

Plus my thoughts now on the leftist or laissez-faire mindset, let it all hang out … call me Attila the Hun.

Which does not mean I was not involved in ‘scenes’ … I was a young man, there were so many events on all the time … I tried most things … but with two of us, four of us visiting somewhere.

Woodstock? Sounds hell on earth to my mind now. The music? I’m halfway towards DAD but also halfway away, musically … I do think popular songs of the day are important, are even good quality … thinking back to In The Mood … don’t like the Am GI big band swing sound … too contrived, prescribed, few solos, not my rhythm … while Vera Lynn and songs such as Lily Marlene were evocative … highly so.

Andrews Sisters? I liked one of em (not the blonde). Maybe three Animals’ songs. Spencer Davis but not Manfred Mann. Loved quite a bit of southern or roots rock … Marshall Tucker, JJ Cale, some Elvin Bishop. CCR of course … they had talent. Brit invasion bands? Nah. Bus Stop maybe, Waterloo Sunset … evocative.

I’ve mentioned before that imho, it died, popular music, around 1964/5 … became big and complicated … it could be traced to the Beatles’ swami phase, the Stones’ Ruby Tuesday. I still remember one scene where I was … when that came on the radio … but it was close to the end for them imho. We had no idea at the time just how early it all was compared to 2025 … I mean, be serious about the years … take WW1 through to the mid 50s … massive demographic changes … how long? 45 years?

Now look at 1973, for example … till today. 52 years … I mean, what did we expect? Where TH did all those years go? All those generations? Last I looked, Gen X were the new whipper-snappers, callow yoof. Disco? Techno? No thanks. Glam? Ugggh.

Last bit of this rant … when did we become irrelevant? Meaning, when did we cease to affect decisions? That’s for another post.

Life at Toodles corner [2 of 3]

JH: Last instalment tomorrow.

“Again, I was too late getting off my duff and find my phone to get the glassy river for y’all. It was at a standstill much longer yesterday. I thought I had more time so I was again lazy getting up to shoot it. I was reading the blog instead!

Anyway a few more shots. Enough to make you sick of the place.  But fairly glassy. …but not now. It is becoming lively now … these were when it was glassy … ish.

I find that days can appear similar at a glance, but just like people or anything actually, no day and no one is just the same…not even identical twins. Almost the same but not quite.

I am going to pull weeds for a bit. Oh! The fish have started jumping. Turtle is floating with his snout poking out like a piece of wood, the water fowl gracing my view as several in formation skim the water as I look up, dog barking in the distance for a very good reason…to him anyway, and that lazy lone plane makes me want to snooze on the verandah.

Neap tide too . Just in front of me on the dock there is a battle between incoming and outgoing tide! Also, a paddler just quietly scooted inches from my dock and therefore in front of me. She never saw I was there!

More happening here, but I haven’t the wherewithal to describe and you haven’t the time and want-to to read! You know …. like the breeze and swaying of the trees…rustling sounds…but the sounds of swaying trees and bushes are more muffled in early summer/late spring than other times. That dancing of tree and plant limbs present themselves in such interesting ways…almost like marionettes as they bounce and sway in the breeze and light.

Of course the shadows cast by the light add more , ummm…what is the word…oomph…than they would have otherwise…more dimension because of the  light….the shadows cast certainly contribute to the depth of this lovely display before me.”

Saturday [4 to 7]

(0508) Gates bleah appearing out there … great summer, eh? Still … early days. (0529)

7. Yesterday’s news

6. DAD at 1068

a) Late Thursday afternoon, June 5th, no fewer than 27 live lambs were found by police in the Vallon des Mayans, not far from the North Hospital, in the 15th arrondissement. [JH: pretty clear what the invaders are up to.]

b) In Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône. During a search and rescue operation at “The Before Lounge” hookah bar, government services and the Val-d’Oise police seized a strange herd.

c) Hungarian commentator says while it is “forbidden to talk about,” the attacks and mass riots in Paris were done by [JH: … usual suspects.]

d) Since April, more than 16,000 irregular m1gr@nts, including children and women, have been expelled from Algeria to Nigeria.

3. Repeating myself here but

  • Have a robust, organised set of your own archives somewhere, esp. in dead tree
  • Have a list of ‘trusted’, ‘usually trusted’, ‘hobbyhorse-prone’ etc. etc.
  • Don’t visit lazily.

Meaning … by all means visit to pick up snippets … that’s our main job, the magpie mind. But some of you are more thorough … you deep dive, you have a life, you have little time for anything else, certainly not running a series of blogs. But the combination of all of us in a small, unherdable meeting up … ah, that’s quite different … it’s useful. But not too useful. Too useful sees us swatted, as N.O. was.

Evaluate names … there are two here:

I don’t know this Claire Wills but she seems an honest, concerned lass … women are most concerned nowadays. John R is one of our lot … a gruff unherdable.

2. IYE had

“Some history.

Don’t be surprised if Elon eats crow under orders from his techie backers. They want him close to Donny.”

……

JH: It’s a home truth that you the reader cannot really do all this unless:

You are of sufficient age to know who Pat Buchanan is, why he dropped out, a la Farage and TBP and remember that comment by Tom on mine being a magpie mind. Thus I point you to Jstack, quiet, relatively unassuming … but look at Mark Matis’s constant warnings, put those with IYE’s symbolism and plain sight warnings, esp. back to N.O. days, plus Steve’s filtering and his own bkgd, p,us my own reply to Redacted in comments yesterday, plus what he points to.

We don’t do central link lists, registers here … it’s truly up to your due diligence to keep your own archiving … I do some, we all here do much … but we can’t cover everything, it’s an unrealistic expectation, esp. given our age and state of health.

We constantly look for snippets in passing, e.g. look at Flaxen Saxon in Scriblerus in blogrolls. This is not wisdom on my part … it’s just experience … with many of you too. Memory is a precioys commodity, yes? But memories of a dozen of us are that much more enhanced.

But so are ‘false prophets’, appearing to be what they’re not. See … we have to sort those out in our minds too. Etc. etc. Nuff for now.

1. Summarising a complex series of issues

Roobeedoo wrote:

These are my takeaways from the Elon/Kash/Rogan things …

  • Talk of Elon and an America Party for the midterms, backed by the Demonrats as they have no one else.
  • Kash Patel says he was swatted. Says. Says. Ok?

Then:

In our sidebar:

Roobee “seems” locked into the free WP security filter which can be set at various levels. I get in because of long association … Redacted is relatively unknown there, hence the 3rd degree. This is why our security here does rely on my eventual oversight, but all WP using the platform has at least a modicum of their oversight …

… which they can’t be blamed for in one sense, protecting themselves from wrecking, DDOS, that sort of thing … even rogue site admins.

It truly is wild west.

Then we come to what you don’t see unless a techie … all sorts of minor glitches, obstacles in the composing of posts, in which I could go on for pages as to what prevents this post item even getting to you and the moves which must ge made to get around it.

I’m no techie but am a mid-tech or ‘super-user’, so I see many traps but not the vast majority of them.

And don’t forget that much of that above was on X, ‘disgruntled’ Elon’s site, run by WEFer Yaccarino. Juss sayin’. Ditch it? Not at this stage … it’s still part-reliable. That’s the state of play.
